The Man Who Came Back
Setting: Col. Collins in the Moonbase shuttle on his way to Earth
Collins: Approaching Earthly reentry – and feeling blue. Is it alright for Saturday night, darling?
Lake: [in the Command sphere on Moonbase] Your communication is against standard procedure. [then in a softer voice] And yes, it’s still alright for Saturday.
Collins: Now, that’s more like it!

Setting: in orbit around Earth
SID: I’ve been hit! I’ve been hit! I’ve been hit . . . [scrambled words that finally slow to nothing]

Setting: Cmdr. Straker and Col. Grey in the HQ office the day Collins returns to work
Straker: Look, let’s get this straight before he gets here. When it comes to SID’s brains, Craig knows more than anybody. So as of now, he’s on the project.
Grey: All I’m saying is that Craig Collins and I . . .
Straker: Look. Your personal feelings for him are your own problem.
Grey: Just tell me who’s in charge?
Straker: Well, over all you are. But when it comes to SID’s engineering, Craig is God, okay?

Setting: Collins and Virginia Lake on Moonbase
Lake: I did think about you.
Collins: Did you? [takes her hand as she gets up to leave. He comes close to her] You mean, there’s still a chance for this singed old astronaut?
Lake: I never said there wasn’t. It’s just that I resent you looking upon me as your property.
Collins: Now, you know . . . I’d never do that. [he kisses her, then refuses to let her go]
Lake: [when she finally breaks his hold on her] You didn’t leave the jungle. You brought it back with you!

Setting: Col. Lake and Col. Grey on Moonbase
Lake: You ran a computer check on my relationship with Craig a long time ago.
Grey: I know.
Lake: And the readout said that it would not affect my efficiency.
Grey: Then two weeks ago, we ran one on you and Foster, and it said the same thing.
Lake: So, why the inquisition?
Grey: Yesterday we ran one on you and Craig and Foster. [shakes his head] The computer seemed to think a triangle was the nastiest emotional shape there is.
Lake: Well, you can tell the computer to relax. There is no triangle.
Grey: Oh? Who got dropped?
Lake: Craig.
Grey: May I ask why?
Lake: That is my business.

Setting: Cmdr. Straker and Col. Collins in the elevator at the launch site, going up to the rocket
Collins: Well, here we go again, old man!
Straker: Not so much of the old, if you don’t mind.

Setting: Cmdr. Straker and Col. Collins in the cockpit of the rocket getting it ready for launch
Straker: Well, I hope I can still drive one of these things.
Collins: Yes. So do I.
