From: Regina Email: [email protected] Subject: Why I Like UFO It was one of my earliest tv sci memories. It aired in the uk I when I was about two years old in 1970. I Found the series imaginative and action packed. Upon seeing later reruns I knew why I enjoyed it so much. Commander Straker was my hero along with Foster, Freeman and Lt Barry...They were dedicated and professional. Straker was hard working, sensitive (but didn't show it openly), and intelligent. A role model. 10/15/13 From: Ron Email: [email protected] Subject: UFO Show Love the show! 9/20/2011 From: Betsye Email: [email protected] Subject: About Timelash Dear Sir,I have been a fan of the show ufo for year's!I especially like the show;timelash. It being my favorite! Great resource! It's great to see so many people putting so much time/effort in thier love and appreciation of UFO! 12/28/2010 From: Tim Email: [email protected] Subject: Just to say "Hi" Mr Anderson's programmes were without the highlight of my formative years (from Stingray through to Space 1999), particularly Thunderbirds, Capt Scarlet & UFO. I was especially captured by the imagination, the creativity and the astonishing attention to detail. The team(s) involved in each project cared deeply about what ultimately ended up on the screen, corners were never cut, and the great man himself came across always as incredibly modest and self-effacing about his achievements. I once received a huge package of goodies, including a wonderful letter signed by Mr A, having written to a number of addresses, before eventually being put in touch with him through the Sun newspaper. That was 1973. Had I known then, as an 11 year-old, what I now know - that things would never be so bright - I would have treasured those days much more than I did at the time, for such days just slipped away. As for TV shows, the standards were never again so high. I pity the kids of today since there seems to be nothing out there for them anymore of such quality and enduring value. I firmly believe that Mister A ought to have been made a knight (at the very least) or even A Lord (!) for his astonishing contribution to British TV throughout that period of my life. 12/10/2010 From: Shirley Email: [email protected] Subject: Great Memories I had moved to England about a year before the show was televised in my area. I was so happy to be over there and this wonderful show will always have an association for me with that great time.I empathized with Ed Straker with his American accent being surrounded by all those British people, because I with my Canadian accent was in the same boat.Recently, I've somehow become aware of the show again and have learned what a wonderful actor (and person) Ed Bishop seems to have been. He, for me anyway, was the absolute central core of UFO and his brilliantly understated yet powerful rendering of the Ed Straker character has only now become clear to me all these years later, as has the amazing depth of the show.I've finally got the entire DVD set - long live UFO! 6/21/2010 From: Trevor Email: [email protected] Subject: Big Fan I have always been a sci fi fan and I remember first seeing UFO in between lines of static on my parents' television when I was growing up in the seventies in Maryland, USA. This was in the days of "rabbit ear" antennae on televisions. The show had a far out look to it and I just loved the interceptors. I had a UFO lunchbox. None of the other kids even knew about the show. When I watch it now on DVD it takes me right back to my childhood. It's nice to be able to look up info about the show on the internet.Best regards,Trevor TaylorArnold, Maryland 4/30/2010 From: John Email: [email protected] Subject: UFO Mega Set Just bought the dvd mega set. UFO is brill! 3/04/2010 From: Pat Email: [email protected] Subject: Classic Series Brings back fond memories of my childhood in the early '70's.....Great cast, action packed episodes and lovely looking women!Got the dvds a good few years back, but always try and watch the episodes when they are shown on UK satellite/cable channels. 3/03/2010 From: Carl Email: [email protected] Subject: My favorite series (Ma série préféré) UFO:Alert in the area was my favorite series in my younger days .. even in 2010 I still watch this wonderful series! Ed Bishop was my favorite actor in the series! I can't wait to see the film in 2011! from this series! But there is nothing to beat the original 1969! . . . merci) 2/20/2010 From: Humbert Email: [email protected] Subject: UFO as speculative and not science fiction I can vivdly remember watching the reruns back in the 1970's when I was just eight years old and found the stories very mature if not ahead of its time in the world of speculative sci-fi. The mix of politics and covert operations in dealing with the threat of an alien invasion (along with the stress experienced by those working secretly to prevent the world from ever learning that an organization existed to combat this) rang almost as true as Area 51, the Roswell UFO crash of 1947 and the many government secrets kept and filed of extraterrestrial encounters for decades. To me, "UFO" is the most realistic concept to have ever been televised in that we may already have an organization and the technology that is secretly working underground and to keep fending that alien threat from ever surfacing here on Earth. 2/18/2010 From: Giuseppe Email: [email protected] Subject: UFO Sites Hello, I'm the webmaster of the site www.fablibrary.comwhich contains a page about UFO plus a UFO photonovel (if you like, there are more available in the italian language version) and narrative versions of all the 26 episodes with images (all in italian language: unfortunately I never found an editor interested in an english translation).I knew UFO when I was 7 years old and I never forgot it. 2/14/2010 From: Chris Email: [email protected] Subject: Still wishing! Gerry the master, why wasn't he taken more seriously as the creative genius that he obviously was. My childhood was so influenced by his vision of the future, ultimately in my favorite of all his visionary tv series U.F.O. If any body has the balls to step up to the line, please don't let us all down with some TB type sellout. 2/11/2010 From: Pam Email: [email protected] Subject: This site ROCKS!!!! Denise - this site is absolutely FAB! You have to be very happy with the way it turned out and you deserve kudos for trying to get together all the artwork and fanfic writers in one spot! Hugs. 2/6/2010 From: Randy Email: [email protected] Subject: New Movie Hi, as a series fan I also eagerly await the movie and agree the feel and style of the show should be kept as much as possible. I like the mystery of the show, such as we don't really know who the aliens are, where they come from, etc. and some of the realism- such as Stryker needing to fight for funding for SHADO or the glitch that makes the camera system, sent to take pictures of the alien homeworld, not function so the pictures are unusable. That is why I like the one missile interceptors. The reality of technical limits creates situations that have to be overcome- thus creating the human drama of how the SHADO operatives react to the situation.I think I could write a great deal more. Thank fully we have the internet now for fans to connect and exchange ideas. 2/4/2010 From: Louise Email: [email protected] Subject: UFO! Why do I love UFO? I remember waiting ages for the first programme to be shown- having read the comic strips in TV21 (I think it was- or maybe Countdown) . I was not disappointed! Gerry Anderson's finest work, with one of the most gorgeous characters I had ever seen. Ed Straker, I fell in love with you right there and then. :-) Still part of my life now! 2/3/2010 From: Denise Email: [email protected] Subject: I love UFO! Just thought I'd be the first to use this form to say how much I enjoyed the show UFO. I watched it as a young teen when it first came out, so I guess that dates me. But even some 40 odd years later, I still love the show |
